Travel and second-home tech prep in Port Ludlow
Before the trip, or the months away: the phone set up for abroad, the house checkable from anywhere, everything backed up, and no surprise bill afterwards.
Sound familiar?
Before the trip, and for the months away.
- A phone bill from abroad that was a shock.
- You want to check on the house while you’re gone.
- The thermostat and cameras should be visible from away.
- A backup before you leave.
- Hotel Wi-Fi you don’t quite trust.
- The Port Ludlow internet, paused or kept alive while you’re away.
What happens on a visit
Plan the phone
An eSIM or a travel plan set up before you go, so the bill is known in advance.
Set up the house to be checked
Cameras, thermostat and a leak sensor if you have one, all on your phone and tested from outside.
Back up and secure
Photos and documents backed up, and a VPN for the hotel Wi-Fi.
Write the travel card
What to do if the phone dies, the Wi-Fi fails, or a card gets blocked.
Common questions
What is an eSIM, and do I need one?
A phone plan you download instead of a little card. For a trip abroad it’s usually the cheapest way to have data, and I set it up before you go.
Should I pause my internet while I’m away?
If the house needs cameras or a thermostat, no. Otherwise many providers allow a seasonal pause; I check yours and set it up.
Is hotel Wi-Fi safe?
For email and the news, fine. For banking, use your phone’s data or the VPN I set up.
Ready to leave with everything handled?
Call and tell me what's happening. You'll talk to me, not a call center.
